This month I will be sharing the story of my friends Mohammad and Saja and their family. Mohammad, Saja and their two daughters moved to Harrisonburg, just a few short months ago after fleeing their home in Iraq. This is their story..
We all have people we meet, that leave us with an impression..a feeling, usually of warmth and kindness. Mr. David Huyard is one of those people to me. He is kind to everyone and has this light about him, that so few do. Little did I know, he had so much more to him than met the eye. He leads a full life of love, faith, family and travel. I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Huyard years ago, and I am so grateful he allowed me to meet with him and take the following images. Meeting Mr. Huyard and spending time with him brought to life the idea I had for this project that I started in May of 2015. This is a day in the life of a retiree.
For those who follow this blog, its been a while..I started this blog post adventure, last May, and set out to complete one full year's worth of blog posts regarding "A Day in the Life". Well, my life happened and it needed my attention. Thank you to those who follow these posts and read them. Your support and encouragement means so much to me and it truly inspires me. I did display the images that were taken during this project (May-Sept) in a show at Spitzer Art Center last November. (See below image) My last post, in September, was about a Pastor at a local church. So far, I have completed posts about A Day in the Life of a: Single Mother, a child, a Veteran, a Married Couple (Part I & II) and a Pastor. Tomorrow I will be picking up where I left off and blogging about a new lifestyle, a Retiree. Stay tuned for tomorrow's post!
As always, thanks for reading. :) Amanda Garber waits back stage as an announcement is being made by Alexis Ward, the Worship Coordinator at RISE. Amanda is the pastor of RISE, a United Methodist Faith Community that meets every Sunday at 10ish in downtown Harrisonburg at Court Square Theater. This is a glimpse into a day in the life of a pastor..
Please meet the Caine-Conley's. (and their pup Eliza!) This month's post in my year long series titled "A Day in the Life", will focus on a day in the life of a married couple. Lindsay met Brittany while she was living in Harrisonburg, studying at JMU. They met at an event for a local church and the rest, well..its a happy ending. :)
Meet the Bianchi's, Melinda and Andrea. (and Daisy and Meeko) :) This month's post in my year long series titled "A Day in the Life", will focus on a day in the life of a married couple. Melinda met Andrea in France while she was overseas teaching English and modeling part time. Andrea (also a model) was one of the photographer's at an event she was photographed at. They met over photography and the rest, well..its a happy ending. :)
We left off yesterday discussing Jimmy and his journey with his service and his life in the aftermath of the war. Jimmy has more to say and its surely my job to share..
Hello friends! Today, in continuing with my year long project, "A Day in the Life," I am honored to bring to you a wonderful story of survival, bravery, and strength about a Vietnam War Veteran named Jimmy. Today is the Fourth of July and I could think of no better day, than today, to share this man's story with you.

It was warm Spring day when I headed over to Jennifer's house, camera in hand, to photograph her family. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by two tooth filled grins from two excited kiddos. They took me back into the garden behind the house where their parents were waiting as well.
She stands at the sink, cleaning dishes from last night, a little after nine am. Her son helps empty the dishwasher with haste then rushes off upstairs to listen to music on his iPod. Her daughter has the TV on in the living room, filling the room with voices. The mother is quiet as she works, still waking from sleep.
I have started a new project titled "A day in the life". While I realize this is a widely popular theme, I know of no other true way to describe simply what I am planning on photographing. I will be documenting the daily lives of people in their own environment, as is. Each session will be individual to itself, with regard to the people, the subject and issues they face, day to day. Overall, the project will encompass the main theme, a day in the life. The project will take one year to complete. Twelve projects in all. One a month. The project begins in May. For my first post, I will be covering the life of a single mother.
My intention of photographing these lives is to bring reality to the foreground. We all co-exist, spending little time understanding what happens in the day to day for others. Sure, you can assume. But can you really empathize? For this project my goal is to help people understand what a day looks like in the life of others. Thanks for reading. xo Danielle |
